The Art of Powerful Storytelling

Story-telling is an art that has been passed down from generation to generation for entertainment. Today story-telling is used in many other ways. In his new book, Unique Sales Stores: How To Persuade Others Through the Power of Stories to Win Them Over, author Mark Satterfield explains how a person can use the power of stories to stay ahead in this competitive market.

In his book, Satterfield outlines a five-step process that anyone can use to make their stores not only persuade but also entertains.  Divided into three main sections, Unique Sales Stories offers a collection of Satterfield’s essays on creating unique stories with step-by-step instructions on how to develop your own one-of-a-kind sales stories.  Examples are also provided.  Here is a snippet from Satterfield’s book.

“If you want to stand out in a crowded marketplace, the solution isn’t all that particularly difficult or complex.  There are really only a few steps to the process:

First, create a unique signature sales story about who you are, the problems you solve and the benefits that clients get from working with you.  The key word here is “unique.”  Make sure that it’s a story that no one else is telling.  How do you do that?  One simple method is by having the characters in the story be you, your friends and associates.  Another simple way to create uniqueness is to tell the story about why you’re doing what you’re doing.  How did you get into the business?  Why is this your passion, or at least a strong interest in your life?  No one can tell that story but you.

Second, place the story somewhere so that people can get it.  A one-page website is the easiest way to do that.  Basic one-page websites with an opt-in form cost less that $300 to put up.

Now, here’s a tip that’s really important if you want to get lots more clients banging at your door and giving you their business.”

Want to know that special tip?  Order a copy of Satterfield’s book from Amazon.

Readers have found Satterfield’s book to be “fresh and relevant” and “a ‘well-worth-it’ read if you plan on taking action.”  Satterfield has written several books in the past including Negotiate the Raise You Deserve, Power Prospecting and more. Pure, Clean and Simple: The New Face of Ivory Soap

“Cleanliness Needn’t Involve Costliness.”  Procter & Gamble’s most iconic brand, Ivory, has released a brand new ad campaign to announce the modernization of their line of bar soaps and body washes.

When a brand reaches that old age of 132-years-old, it’s time to rejuvenate, and that’s just what Procter & Gamble did.  Their team developed a new makeover for not only the packaging of their products, but also the way the products are marketed.  According to the company, the new campaign targets the modern mom who is incredibly complex yet driven by simplicity.  The new campaign highlights the value and simplicity of Ivory, focusing on busy families who want a product that delivers what they’re looking for.

The campaign, created and developed by Wieden+Kennedy, features what have been dubbed as “Ivoryisms” – refreshingly honest product truths.  “The inspiration for this campaign came from the observation of how, over the years, in an effort to make life simpler, we have somehow made life more complicated,” said Karl Lieberman, creative director of Widen+Kennedy.  “Unlike a lot of other brands, Ivory has stayed true to its equity. It has remained the antithesis of the overly complicated – from its ingredients, packaging and advertising – it’s a throwback to an era where there wasn’t time for such things.  And that’s what makes its new voice so refreshing.”

With five new commercials, a print campaign and an online campaign via Facebook and Twitter, Ivory’s taking the world by storm and reminding all of us that all we really need to do is just add water.

What do you think about this upgrade? Take a look at the campaign samples below and let us know how you feel about this change. You can also find them on Facebook at and on Twitter @Ivory.
