Leeza Gibbons – “Caregiver Confessions”

As many of us know Leeza Gibbons has recently talked about her struggles with caring for her mom. Her mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s more than a decade ago. With Gibbons personal experience of the caregiver’s journey it was no surprise when she partnered with Caring.com to create an online video series. The online video series entitled “Caregivers Confessions” is a 13-part series that covers a variety of topics such as how to keep your family together during difficult times after a loved one is diagnosed and how to deal with the guilt many caregivers feel. To relate with her viewers, Gibbons reveals her own personal journey with her mother, delivering her own insights and expertise to the series.

“The truth is, ALL caregivers sometimes feel afraid, overwhelmed, resentful, angry, and more,” Gibbons says. “There’s just not a safe place to confess those feelings. That’s why I wanted to create this video diary of my own caregiving journey to share what I learned. With Caring.com, we have a chance to support caregivers by acknowledging what’s real, so we can help them be ready.”

Results from a recent study by Caring.com indicate that caregivers rate the emotional stress of caring for a loved one twice as high as the physical or financial stresses.  The survey also revealed that caregivers’ own health is impacted, with about 24% suffering from depression.

In addition to “Caregiver Confessions”, Caring.com also offers Steps & Stages, the first-ever interactive guide and support system to deliver specific, stage-appropriate advice for those caring for a loved one suffering from forms of dementia.

“The Caregiver Confessions series is one of the most important introductions to the site since we launched,” said Andy Cohen, CEO of Caring.com. “Leeza is an amazing person and her knowledge, combined with her unique talents in telling a story and connecting with others, helps make this video series vital viewing for all caregivers.”

Gibbons has advocated for caregivers for years, and her book Take Your Oxygen First: Protecting Your Health and Happiness While Caring for a Loved One With Memory Loss tells the story of her family’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease after her mother’s diagnosis. She also created Leeza’s Place, a resource that provides free support services and programs for family caregivers whose loved ones have a memory disorder or any chronic and/or progressive illness.

The Art of Powerful Storytelling

Story-telling is an art that has been passed down from generation to generation for entertainment. Today story-telling is used in many other ways. In his new book, Unique Sales Stores: How To Persuade Others Through the Power of Stories to Win Them Over, author Mark Satterfield explains how a person can use the power of stories to stay ahead in this competitive market.

In his book, Satterfield outlines a five-step process that anyone can use to make their stores not only persuade but also entertains.  Divided into three main sections, Unique Sales Stories offers a collection of Satterfield’s essays on creating unique stories with step-by-step instructions on how to develop your own one-of-a-kind sales stories.  Examples are also provided.  Here is a snippet from Satterfield’s book.

“If you want to stand out in a crowded marketplace, the solution isn’t all that particularly difficult or complex.  There are really only a few steps to the process:

First, create a unique signature sales story about who you are, the problems you solve and the benefits that clients get from working with you.  The key word here is “unique.”  Make sure that it’s a story that no one else is telling.  How do you do that?  One simple method is by having the characters in the story be you, your friends and associates.  Another simple way to create uniqueness is to tell the story about why you’re doing what you’re doing.  How did you get into the business?  Why is this your passion, or at least a strong interest in your life?  No one can tell that story but you.

Second, place the story somewhere so that people can get it.  A one-page website is the easiest way to do that.  Basic one-page websites with an opt-in form cost less that $300 to put up.

Now, here’s a tip that’s really important if you want to get lots more clients banging at your door and giving you their business.”

Want to know that special tip?  Order a copy of Satterfield’s book from Amazon.

Readers have found Satterfield’s book to be “fresh and relevant” and “a ‘well-worth-it’ read if you plan on taking action.”  Satterfield has written several books in the past including Negotiate the Raise You Deserve, Power Prospecting and more. The Greatest Miracle in 3D

Tis the season for miracles, and on December 9th, The Greatest Miracle will begin appearing in theaters across 50 US cities.

Originally released in Mexico on October 14th, The Greatest Miracle is Mexico’s first 3D animated feature film. Directed by Bruce Morris (Disney’s Pocahontas, The Little Mermaid, The Princess and the Frog, and Hercules) with the musical score composed by Mark McKenzie (Spiderman and Ice Age: The Meltdown), The Greatest Miracle has received praise from audiences and critics alike, becoming the second highest per screen average during its opening weekend.

The film’s score has received much praise.  Jonathan Broxton of Movie Music UK (http://moviemusicuk.us/) said, “McKenzie writes some of the most beautiful, lyrical and emotionally resonant music ever written for film.  Film scores like this don’t come along too often – music so passionate, so moving and so heart-warming. ” The film’s score won the Hollywood Music in Media Awards’ “Best Indie Score” award for 2011 last month.

The Greatest Miracle portrays the story of three strangers at Catholic Mass one morning.  Monica is a widowed mother, struggling to sustain her home and raise her son, Diego.  Don Chema is a bus driver who is dealing with his child’s incurable illness.  Dona Cata is an elderly woman who seeks peace.  Though these three individuals are facing different situations, they each meet their guardian angel and are given the gift to see the world through spiritual eyes and take full account of their blessings.

Producer Pablo Barroso said, “I am very proud of our team’s effort and the industry recognition our film has received so far.  We did not skimp on putting the best ingredients into the making of The Greatest Miracle.  Audiences in Mexico were inspired to consider their lives from a spiritual perspective.  We hope people in the United States will react similarly, especially since we’re entreating the holiday season.”

You can find a complete list of showings here. The Greatest Miracle Will be appearing in Brentwood, Chula Vista, Fresno, Los Angeles, Manteca, Porterville, Riverbank, Sacramento, Salinas, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Clara and Tulare in California.
